Values Education Programs

The subject Character Education is based on the philosophy which recognizes the child in his fundamental relationship with God, fellowmen and self. It provides the students the content and experiences directed toward the inculcation of spiritual and civic values and the development of a good Filipino.

The classroom serves as a laboratory in which students and teachers explore and practice ethical and moral standards in daily living. Following the principle that character is basically "caught" and not "taught", provision is made that the school supplements the effort of parentsand community in forming the character of the student.

Since CIT is a non-sectarian school, Character Building Activities (CBA) is offered in grade school curriculum instead of Christian Living. Aside from values integration in different subject areas, part of pupil's values formation is their active participation in religious activities.

Religious activities undertaken are:

  • Monthly Friday Mass
  • First Holy Communication for Grade 3
  • Celebration of Rosary Month
  • Weekly Catechism Classes
  • September 8 Celebration

Hand in hand with this program, Scouting (BSP/GSP) is one of our co-curricular programs done every Friday morning: This Program offers students:

  • inculcates in them a sense of personal relationship to God and his fellowmen;
  • encourages genuine allegiance to the ideals, traditions, virtues and cultural heritage of the Filipino;
  • citizenship and leadership opportunities;
  • develops an appreciation of the importance of family solidarity and the need for contributing to its spiritual and temporal welfare;
  • gives the students an understanding of society and their place in it;
  • stresses moral and ethical conduct in public and private life; and
  • leads students to observe practical rules and regulations.

Another is the organization of discipline and formation center where the BSP incharge is also the coordinator of the said center. This is done purposely so she could centralized her activities on pupil's development by transforming misbehaving pupils into scout leaders.

In GSP, our girls are also formed to be responsible and productive citizens in the future able to contribute something worthwhile in the community and in our country.

Remedial Programs

A Special program for children with learning difficulties is the remedial program in reading, math and science. Selection of subjects is based on the diagnostic tests given at the beginning of the school year and grade point averages of their report card. In reading, the basic is on oral reading and comprehension skills. Materials used is the SRA kit introducing reading exercises on a sequential form applicable from Grades 3 - 6 while for the lowergrades, DISTAR exercises are utilized.

Parents are called for a meeting to make them aware of their children's poor performance. Alternative solutions are formulated so that follow-up can be done at home. On the part of teacher, well-planned activities on the basis of pupil's specific difficulties to enable the students experience success in the learning process and develop self-confidence. They are taught how to manage their study time. In class, academic needs and problems are met through individual and small discussions. Continuous evaluation with pupil's progress is done on monthly basis and parents are encouraged to come and see their teachers so that continuous follow-up and support can be extended to the pupils.
