CIT Mechanical Engineer wins PSME Worldwide Competition
Warm felicitations go to Engr. Samson C. Guevarra, a BSME alumnus of 1974, for being The Outstanding Mechanical Engineer (TOME) 2009 in the field of Project Engineering. Engr. Guevarra was given the award during the 57th Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) National Convention held at the PICC Plenary Hall, Pasay City last October 22, 2009.
Guevarra bested all other nominees from among the 80 chapters nationwide and 20 chapters abroad in this worldwide competition by PSME. He made history as the first mechanical engineer in Saudi Arabia to achieve this rare feat out of the seven (7) awardees since 1990.
The TOME Award in the field of Project Engineering is considered as the most prestigious and coveted of all categories since it is a complete engineering from design, construction and commissioning.
In addition, Guevarra was interviewed by ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) in Saudi Arabia during the Achievement Award ceremony given to him by the Cebuano Integrated Society and Tribal Allies (CISTA) on Nov. 20, 2009.
To his credit is the impressive track record of performance with 35 years of experience in design, construction, commissioning and maintenance in gasoline refinery, gas plant, gas oil separation plant, petro-chemical plant, off-shore platform, ship building, gold mine, sugar mills and poultry processing plant. He designed and completed two coconut oil mills in Mindanao from 1975 to 1978. He had been part of the Fluor Daniel team that designed and built the $680-M Pilipinas Shell Petroleum STAR Project in 1993. He is also recognized for designing the ‚ÄòTaurus’ brand hand tractor in 1976, as manufactured by Western Steel of Malolos, Bulacan.
He recently visited CIT to provide a free lecture on the topic ‘Petroleum and Petrochemicals Processing’. More than 300 students and faculty members benefited from the lecture which was held at the CIT Case Room on August 3-4, 2009.
Engr. Guevarra is the founder of the CITAA-Saudi Arabia Chapter and, in 2006, president of PSME Saudi Arabia Chapter.
