In behalf of CIT President Mr. Gregorio Escario, Atty. Corazon Evangelista- Valencia received the Award of Distinction for Cebu Institute of Technology from Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on December 10, 2009. The awarding ceremony was held at Rizal Hall of Malacañang Palace, in the presence of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Emmanuel Y. Angeles and other guests of honor.

CIT joins the 56 other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) which are in the top 3% of the existing 1,741 colleges and universities awarded with the Autonomous or Deregulated Status in the country.

In recognition of her accomplishments, adherence to quality assurance, and commitment to public responsibility and accountability as a higher education provider, Cebu Institute of Technology was granted Deregulated Status for the period March 11, 2009 to March 31, 2014, pursuant to CHED Commission en banc (CEB) Resolution No. 076-2009.

“It is indeed one of the fitting accomplishments to conclude the year 2009. With collective will, CIT is ready to take on greater challenges,” said Atty. Valencia, Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

The complete list of autonomous/deregulated schools in Region VII is as follows: Deregulated-Cebu Institute of Technology (5 years), St. Paul University- Dumaguete (5 years); Autonomous-Silliman University (5 years), University of San Carlos (5 years), University of San Jose-Recoletos (5 years), and Holy Name University (1 year).
